As entrepreneurs, we often end up spending a lot of time in our heads, thinking about how to best serve our clients–even when we know that we are sitting around getting crusty and out of touch with ourselves in front of the computer all day! (FYI, I wrote this blog by hand before typing it, just to be more present & engaged while I was doing it.)
We forget sometimes that we can’t run a business without our bodies; we literally cannot CONNECT with clients without them.
When it comes to speaking, engaging one-on-one, shooting video, and even doing teleseminars, being present in your body is going to deepen your connection and create the kind of relationship that makes people want to continue to engage with you.
There are scientific reasons for this, and here’s just one of them: What you give is what you get–even if you don’t mean to. All of us have these things in our brains called “mirror neurons”. When you are with other people, these mirror neurons will mirror the strongest emotional state in the group. This happens on a very subtle level, and it works even when the person is trying to conceal that emotion.
So imagine that you are speaking in front of a group and you are super stressed out–what are they going to feel unconsciously creeping up on them? Yeah, stress!
AND, conversely, if you are able to center yourself and grab hold of your passion to guide you, they are going to be swept up in that same current as well! Whee!
If you find yourself stressing out, don’t beat yourself, though. I will be bringing you some fabulous tips this week on how to change your state quickly and easily so you can exude the love and excitement that you hope to see reflected in your clients.
Post below and let me know what the most challenging situations are for you to stay relaxed, passionate & positive–I will try to use your examples in my blogs this week

Wow writing a blog by hand…..hmmm….. I will give it a shot. I write as I think…then edit..edit..edit.
Believe me, it wasn’t word for word! But I like the flow of getting my thoughts out that way & then arranging & editing.
Nice Kellie. I usually “write” my blogs in bed while not falling asleep and then with any luck I remember to actually put them down on paper, computer, anything in the morning so I can actually memorialize them. So your blog made me realize the reason I always have my best ideas at that time is because I am probably most self-connected and grounded at that time. Thanks!
That’s great, Cat–I always get stuck in that place of “should I get up and write this down or try to go back to sleep?”. Lately, I have been trying to write in the dark so I don’t have to wake up all the way–but it’s totally hilarious trying to decipher it in the morning!
Hi Kellie, when I have to do technology I get stressed, looking forward to your tips.
Hi Cinder
Does technology stress you out while you speaking (like Powerpoint), or just in general?
Great reminder, Kellie! Hmmm…my most challenging situation is probably when I’m busy or stressed and have to communicate with my husband.
Oh boy, that’s a doozy, isn’t it!
Kelly, I love the fact that you wrote this blog by hand to really “connect” with what you wanted to say before you went to the keyboard. Writing in my journal is my warm-up for the work day along with my stress-release at the end of the day. Looking forward to the tips this week.
Thanks for your comment, Mary
Journaling practice is a beautiful thing!
